Fairfield is a neighbourhood in Victoria British Columbia bounded by James Bay, downtown, Rockland, and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. It’s home to several parks including one of Victoria’s largest parks, Beacon Hill Park. This is the southernmost neighbourhood in the city of Victoria and is Victoria’s largest community by population and area.
This residential community is comprised of low rise apartments and single-family homes on well-maintained, tree-lined streets. The historic Ross Bay Cemetery, as well as many historical buildings, dating back to the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. Within Fairfield are several schools, many parks, and other community organizations and centers such as the YMCA, the Mount St. Mary Hospital, and the Ross Bay Villa or also known as “The Winter House”. This historical Museum is a landmark in Fairfield and is designed to educate the general public about Canada’s social, cultural, and architectural heritage with a special emphasis on the colonial era. The organization is designed to restore, conserve, research, and present historical homes and specifically the Ross Bay Villa home and garden dating back to 1865.
Beacon Hill Park is one of Fairfield’s and Victoria’s largest parks. James Bay is popular with tourists and locals encompassing a wide range of events and amenities including the world’s fourth largest totem pole measuring about 39 m. The park also has numerous trails, sports fields, tennis courts, concessions, two playgrounds, and off-leash dog park area and lawn bowling.
The Fairfield Plaza features a variety of shopping, grocery stores, and restaurants and along Cook Street, you’ll find several other coffee shops, bistros, and amenities.
